How to Import Kidney Beans into Uganda?

Uganda is a landlocked country, but thanks to the Northern Corridor and regional trade agreements like COMESA, importers can move goods easily from Mombasa Port in Kenya to Uganda’s major cities.

Required Import Steps:

1.   Register as an importer with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)

2.   Obtain a Tax Identification Number (TIN)

3.   Ensure the beans comply with Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS)

4.   Present phytosanitary certificates & certificate of origin

5.   Use a licensed clearing agent at border points like Malaba or Busia

6.   Pay applicable customs tariffs and VAT

•    Import Duty (EAC/COMESA): 0% (if origin country is COMESA member or with bilateral trade agreement)

•    VAT: 18%
